My artwork is inspired by nature, the Yorkshire landscape and wildlife. I live in Hebden Bridge and grew up in Yorkshire so it was inevitable I would be inspired by the countryside. I start my prints with an intricate pen drawing, which I then transfer to a silk screen to make hand
pulled screen prints. I became passionate about screen printing as it gave me an opportunity to develop my drawings with colours and textures. My images are bright but with a consideration of colour theory.
I usually make my prints, cards and notebooks as collections. Projects I have explored have been ; “A Northern Sky” (my home town and Yorkshire places close to my heart), “Kingfishers”, “Hummingbirds” and “All the cats I have known” (which features my cat Billy quite heavily).
I studied Illustration at Edinburgh College of Art. I mainly made screen printed books based on 1960’s northern literature and stories are still important to me when making artwork. I went on to complete a Masters in Sequential Illustration at the University of Brighton and it was there that I began supplying my paintings and prints to galleries. My artwork is now exhibited in many galleries throughout the UK. I make cheerful prints to brighten up grey days.
