As MaggieMagoo Designs I create colourful contemporary printed textiles & surface pattern design. I have four design collections, with products ranging from textile pieces such as tea towels, purses & embroidery hoop art to paper based with notebooks, prints & matchbox art. The subject matter is inspired by the natural world, with plants, florals & insects featuring.
I enjoy combining my love of print and pattern to create modern clean designs. It's important to me as a designer to create practical, useful items, which are also beautiful. So I have a range of pieces, some of which reflect my need for functionality, and others which are simply aesthetically pleasing.
Since I’ve been taking part in craft events the comment I’ve often heard about my work is that it’s bright & cheerful and lifts people’s spirits. I design with my heart so it’s a wonderful feeling to know my designs make people happy. People are also really interested in my matchbox art & embroidery art and love to talk to me about the processes I use to create each piece.
My love of mid century design and my passion for colour & surface pattern play an important part in my creative process. My work is also inspired by nature with vintage botanical bookplates being a great source of inspiration. I enjoy working with both textiles & paper and try to have a balance of both mediums on my stall. I continue to develop my hand embroidery & am enjoying translating my designs into stichwork. I feel that I am successfully putting a contemporary twist on a traditional craft.
I’ve recently been developing a new collection of black & white designs, which was launched at your May event & was really well received. I was inspired by a combination of folk art, wood cuts & tattoo art.
