All our work is hand thrown and raku fired. The copper matt pottery has very little glass in the glaze, which results in a surface texture that resembles velvet. The colours are produced by a thin layer of copper oxide refracting light in a similar way to oil on water, using thin film interference to produce a similar spectrum of colours. You can often see a flame pattern from the burning sawdust, fixed into the colours on the pot. The dark smoky background, flame patterns and spectrum of colours remind us of the Northern Lights in the night sky.
