Split Tin Guitars

In the remote farming communities of the Appalachian Mountains of the USA in the 19th century there was a great tradition of homemade music and instrument making. Cigar box fiddles, tin can banjo’s, gourd dulcimers, mandolins made from old cheese boxes, anything readily available was utilized.

Taking inspiration from these early examples I make guitars, banjo’s and other string instruments from vintage sweet and biscuit tins, petrol and oil cans, collectors items in their own right. Each one is unique, handmade in my cottage in Cromford, Derbyshire.
