This retrospective will trace Palmer's artistic journey over the last 4 decades. Considered to be a visionary painter, Simon Palmer's connection with his much-loved Wensleydale home and the world of his imagination is unfettered by current trends and opinions. From the apparently familiar, he creates illusions which hover on the brink of reality.
“Like other British artists before me, I draw a spiritual connection from the land in a specific place, offering my personal perspective on the narrow lanes, railway bridges, drystone walls, ancient trees, new saplings and distant moors,” he says. “I’m inspired by specific locations but I don’t paint them as real places, it’s more about capturing the spirit and atmosphere.”
One of Britain's leading watercolour artists, we have displayed Simon's work around Salts Mill for almost 30 years. This is a very special chance to see a wide variety of his work in one place.
